“I see the world as a tangle of creativity. Each culture is built upon the minds of artists. In my piece, Mother Earth is bestowing inspiration upon a girl. This single soul’s creativity surpasses limitations and spreads throughout the world, connecting those around her and strengthening the bonds between cultures.”

Yes everyone… it’s Prom weekend! While the day may seem magical with the lights, the dresses, the perfume, and the lovey-dovey atmosphere- what’s truly magical about this weekend is the actual atmosphere!

No, I am not talking about how we went from having thunder in the morning, to rain during the school day, to having one of the most beautiful days in weeks right before prom started- I am talking about the night sky!
This weekend we have the phenomenon known as a “supermoon!” There couldn’t have been a more fitting event for the most romantic weekend of the school year!

So what is the Supermoon? A Supermoon is the coincidence of a full moon with the closest approach the Moon makes to the Earth on its elliptical orbit! This makes the moon seem 14 times larger and 14 times brighter!! So wether you are enjoying a night at prom, or are simply sitting at home staring at the moon- this weekend’s Supermoon is going to be AWESOME! While reading this I can’t help but hear Dean Martin singing in the background;

“When the moon hits your eye
Like a big-a pizza pie
That’s amore
When the world seems to shine
Like you’ve had too much wine
That’s amore”

A romantic song, a romantic day, and the most beautiful moon you will see for a few more years!
Love is in the air, the sky, and well… at High Point!

(PS. The moon should be visible in it’s full glory Friday night starting at 9:10 and the rest of the weekend!! Enjoy!!)

Lacking motivation to even start any more school work? Already accepted to college? Can’t wait for graduation?

If this sounds like you, the cure may be right here!

Count down the days until graduation

Take a break from all that thinking

Watch the movie Accepted

Tear past weeks out of your planner

Check out www.zachstockmal.com

Watch some of the cartoons you haven’t seen since you were a kid

Start planning a graduation party

Plan a before college vacation

And, if you still can’t bring yourself to look at any school work:

Remember that you need to average a 90 to be exempt from final

Remember that all college acceptances are contingent upon graduation and final grades

The Student Council has a lot of exciting things happening this month. We recently raised a thousand dollars for a charity organization called Links for Life. The proceeds went to memorial Sloan Kettering cancer center for research on rare cancers. Student council sold links in all lunches for $1. This charity was brought to council by Preston Rowan whose father suffers from a rare cancer. We also had a penny race this past week and raised $750 for our state charity, ‘Good Grief’ which helps people coping with the loss of a loved one. In addition to the charity, March kicked off the start of the ‘Heroes Campaign’ for the Red Cross and the Red Cross Committee have several fundraising ideas such as: a black light dance, selling of red cross bracelets for two dollars, a jeans day for teachers, and a spirit day where students wear military or super hero outfits. We are hoping to raise a thousand dollars and generate a lot of student involvement!

“Happy Hunger Games!” The time has finally come for the 74th Hunger Games to begin! For those of you who are as obsessed with books as I am, are most likely as excited as I am right now! Okay, for those of you who have no clue what I’m talking about right now…GO GET THE BOOK! Give it a try. The book has everything your favorite action movie has, or your favorite romantic movie has just with a spin on it. Scratch that…HUGE spin on it. Suzanne Collins has created a masterpiece that will be loved as much as the Harry Potter series or Twilight Series. But, what makes this book awesome is that the main characters are somewhere around your age. When reading you can put yourself in their shoes and think…”wow, what if this happened to me?”

I have a good feeling that director Gary Ross has created a matching masterpiece to the books. Although some fans might have their doubts on the movies, I have confidence that the movie will match the book perfectly.

Movie Summary:

Director Gary Ross brings the amazing book to life on March 23! Starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth. Set in the future, where the Capitol selects one boy and one girl from each of the twelve districts to fight to the death on live television, Katniss Everdeen volunteers to take her sister’s place for the latest match. Catch the action/ drama in theatres soon.

Oh and “May the odds be ever in your favor!”
